How we handle your payment information
When you save a payment method on this portal, your card number, expiry date, and security code are transmitted directly from your browser to Stripe, Inc. — our payment processor. SilverServers does not see, receive, or store your full card number at any time.
What SilverServers keeps in its own records is limited to the card brand (Visa, Mastercard) and the last four digits, solely so our staff can identify the card you've saved. The full card data, the secure token used to charge it, and any 3-D Secure authentication details are held inside Stripe's vault.
Stripe is certified as a Level 1 PCI DSS Service Provider — the highest level of certification available in the payments industry. Because our portal never touches raw card data, our own scope under the PCI DSS is the simplest self-assessment form (SAQ A), and our site is configured with a strict Content Security Policy that permits only Stripe's JavaScript to load the card-entry fields.
What we charge you for
We charge only for SilverServers invoices that you have been issued. Each charge is created manually by a staff member against a specific invoice number from our QuickBooks accounting system. You are shown the invoice amount, any applicable processing surcharge, and the total before any charge is submitted.
Credit card processing surcharge
In accordance with Canadian payment network rules effective October 2022:
- A processing surcharge of up to 2.4% (Visa) or 2.65% (Mastercard) may be added to invoices paid by credit card. The surcharge is capped at our actual processing cost for your specific transaction.
- Quebec clients are never charged a surcharge, in compliance with Quebec's Consumer Protection Act. Automated credit card billing is not offered to Quebec clients; alternative payment methods are provided.
- American Express and other card brands are not accepted for automated billing on this portal.
Magic-link sign-in
This portal does not use passwords for clients. When you need to manage your payment method or review your activity, we send a secure, single-use sign-in link to your email address on file. Each link:
- Works exactly once. Any subsequent use of the same link is rejected.
- Expires seven days after it is generated.
- Can be cancelled at any time by SilverServers staff.
Your rights
You may request at any time that we remove your saved payment method or your account entirely. Removing a payment method detaches it from Stripe's vault; it cannot be recovered and a new card must be saved before any future automatic charge can be made. Historical payment records are retained as required for accounting and tax purposes.
